So... What's roller derby?

In a Nutshell:

Roller derby is a full contact sport played on quad roller skates. Two teams will each field five players on the track: 3 blockers, one pivot, and one jammer. These skaters will skate in 90 second plays called jams. When the whistle blows to start the jam, everyone starts skating. The jammer must break through all of the other skaters (also known as "the pack") and make a lap. For each opposing skater they lap, the jammer earns one point for their team. A jammer may make as many laps as they'd like in 90 seconds - if they can stay on their skates long enough. Throughout the jam, blockers will try to hit the jammers and each other to gain position. As a game, roller derby requires both teams to play offense and defense at all times. East Coast Gladiators is an open gender team that plays by the USARS ruleset. Still confused?
